A New Generation of Synergistic
Light-Based Therapies

Choices™ uses several powerful light-based technologies for skin treatments and hair removal. These include AFT Pulsed Light Therapy, Skin Tightening Therapy and LED Phototherapy. Used singularly, or better yet combined in a series of treatments, they offer an effective and essentially painless treatment of various aspects of photoaging with no "down time."

Living creatures interact with light with profound effect. Plants undergo photosynthesis and grow toward light. Light affects our vision, our sleep cycle, even our moods. Light-based photorejuvenation revitalizes and reconditions skin health and appearance. Science has proven that the skin responds positively to the application of specific types of light and that the cells of the skin can be stimulated to assume a more normal function during the aging process.

The origins of light therapy date back to ancient times. The Greeks first recorded the healing properties of light in 1500 B.C., when they suggested that exposure to light was essential for the restoration of health. Science has long verified the benefits of light on the human body and mind. Light affects our vision, our sleep cycle, and even our moods. In medical care, light can beneficially treat tissue in procedures such as laser vision correction. Only recently has the incredible potential of light to rejuvenate skin been realized.

Unlike spa treatments, light-based skin photorejuvenation employs medically established technologies based on science and research. Unlike surgical alternatives such as a face-lift, these remarkable light-based therapies are non-invasive and do not create any "down-time". Unlike laser or radio frequency type treatments these light-based therapies offer essentially painless treatments with no "down time."

Advanced Fluorescence Technology ™ (AFT)

AFT stands for Advanced Fluorescence Technology. It is also known as Highly Energized Fluorescent Light™ (HEFL) or Intense Pulsed Light. It is not a laser treatment. AFT uses the Alma Harmony Light Treatment system with multiple hand pieces for different applications.

AFT uses computer controlled, high intensity applications of fluorescent light of various color combinations. Different colors of light are absorbed differently by different components of the skin. By optimizing the colors of fluorescent light applied to the skin, AFT allows multiple desirable skin rejuvenative effects.

During the treatment process, an intense light is applied to the problem area in a series of gentle pulses. The light penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the affected area. The heat impairs blood vessels and lesions without damaging the skin and causes the body to begin its natural healing process.

Certain color combinations provide overall skin rejuvenation, with improvement in skin texture and quality. Others allow for removal of pigmented skin lesions, such as age spots and sun spots. Still other colors treat broken, dilated capillaries and facial redness, while others allow for hair removal.

The unique safety and effectiveness of this form of light-based skin rejuvenation comes from the exquisite control of color spectrum, light energy levels, and light duration afforded by computer-assisted applications. It is quick, efficient, very safe, completely non-invasive and minimally painful.

AFT treatments usually have minimal discomfort, which is quite transient. No "red face" is produced and clients can go back to their routine activities immediately after treatments. Pigmented spots often become temporarily darker after treatment, but these areas can be covered up with makeup or concealer.

Near-Infrared Skin Tightening Therapy (ST)

ST stands for Skin Tightening and it uses near-infrared pulsed light technology to treat wrinkles and skin laxity through deep dermal heating that selectively targets collagen, protein and fat without damage to the epidermis. It heats the inner layer or dermis of the skin, inducing the formation of collagen, essential for a firm, young look. It effects skin tightening, toning and texturing. ST treatments use the same Alma Harmony Light Treatment technology as the AFT.

Compared to other skin tightening treatments (Thermage or Titan) which do not filter out the high water absorption wavelengths that cause pain, ST only targets what really matters in tissue remodeling - collagen, protein and fat. As a result, clients experience little or no pain with the treatment, and can return to their normal activities immediately.

ST is the only technology of its kind to produce immediate results followed by progressive improvement for up to six months. Since collagen growth involves making new substance by the cells, collagen stimulation can take some months to become apparent. However, ST also reaches the deeper layers of the skin causing some immediate wrinkle reduction and skin tightening.

Common areas treated include the face, neck, chest, hands and arms. Like AFT Therapies, Skin Tightening treatments have minimal discomfort, which is quite transient. No red face is produced and there is no 'downtime". Clients can return to their normal routine immediately after treatment. These treatments can be done at the same time as the other treatments.

Cryogenic Skin Cooling System
Used with all ST treatments, our Cryogenic System allows safe and effective cooling of the skin to make the procedures essentially painless. Light Emitting Diode (LED) Skin Rejuvenation - Skin Tightening Wrinkle Reduction - Toning - Texturing LED stands for Light Emitting Diode and its treatments are referred to as Max7 LED Phototherapy. It is a new and non-invasive light therapy taking the beauty world by storm.
The actual LED machine is a device, which emits a highly pure, single color of very gentle light with less energy than a 25-watt light bulb. LED treatments directly stimulate the cells of the skin without generating heat to reverse the aging process and rejuvenate the skin. LED therapy painlessly can stimulate your own skin cells to produce the biological components of more youthful, healthy skin.
It directly stimulates mitochondrial DNA with light to produce collagen, decrease collagenase production and revitalize the cells of the skin with no pain and no known complications. The anti-aging effects of LED therapy can continue for months after treatments are stopped, with on-going youthful results. This technology was originally developed by NASA to improve wound healing and tissue growth by giving instructions to the cell's DNA. It assisted tired and fatigued astronauts upon their return. The potential of this technology was soon thereafter introduced into the medical and beauty markets. It can treat a variety of skin conditions successfully and has been proven to restore youth to ageing skin, encourage cellular rejuvenation, calm red capillaries and blemishes and assist with alleviating acne and oily skin. Because LED anti-aging treatments are non-invasive and of very low energy, they are completely painless and do not produce a "red-face", allowing clients to go back to their daily routine immediately. There are no reported side effects to the treatments, and they compliment our other Light-Based Therapies.
